Create Buckets
Create buckets using the bucket creator, which features an easy-to-use slider to pick just how much storage you need or to fit your budget.
Custom bucket sizing
Additional Information
When creating a bucket, you use a simple slider to pick how much storage space you need per month based on bucket size or your budget size. Once confirmed, you will be billed automatically out of your wallet balance on the first of the month.
Need to change the size of your bucket? No problem! During the last two (2) days of the month you can increase or decrease your bucket size. However, you can only do this once per month, once you confirm the new size you are locked in for the next month and the new price is billed on the first.
Choose the size for you, from 1 GB / month to however much we have available. The more we grow, the more space becomes available on the slider!
How does Cragvale compare?
Cragvale is technically Pay-Per-Gigabyte reserved storage hosting and has a billing rate of $0.09 / GB / month.
We price our service to be half the rate of the closest competitor.
The following providers offer as similar services to Cragvale as we could find.
✽ Our Competitors
-
Google Cloud Datastore
$0.18 / GB / month Pricing varies by region or multi-region as well as for ingress and egress charges.
We used their calculator for 50 GB / month with 2,000 reads, 2,000 writes, and 2,000 deletions for a single region to get the amount shown. The same amount of storage with unlimited read, writes, and deletions on Cragvale would be $1.50 per month, oh and we only do multi-region storage at no additional cost to you! -
Google Cloud Firestore
$0.18 / GB / month Since these guys are owned by Google the pricing is the same as with Cloud Datastore above once you use more than 1 GB / month of storage which is the same as Cloud Datastore's free tier. Again, this would cost you only $1.50 per month with Cragvale without all the complexities. -
Google Firebase
$0.18 / GB / month Since these guys are owned by Google the pricing is the same as with Cloud Datastore above once you use more than 1 GB / month of storage which is the same as Cloud Datastore's free tier. Again, this would cost you only $1.50 per month with Cragvale without all the complexities.
While there are additional NoSQL and Blob file storage services out there, they are run either similar to virtual private servers or are not cloud based solutions similar to Google Cloud Firestore / Datastore, or Firebase. It is for these reasons we do not list them here.
What Cragvale has & doesn't have
Cragvale Offers
Ability to change your bucket size
On the last two days of the month, you have the option of resizing your buckets if needed. Once you confirm the new size, you're locked in for the next month.
Reserved storage space by default
No need to contact sales, no need to pay per gigabyte of storage space or other weird pricing schemes. With Cragvale, you rent buckets with pre-defined sizing. It really is that simple!
No bandwidth charges
No ingress or egress based charges.
Always hot access
Cragvale doesn't differentiate between long-term, mid-term, or short-term storage.
No deletion charges
Cragvale doesn't charge you for deleting data "too soon".
Encryption by default
All data stored on Cragvale servers is encrypted using AES256-GSM.
Cragvale Doesn't Offer
No data backup services
Cragvale doesn't offer automatic synchronization of your files as we're only interested in hosting data in either Key/Value, JSON, or Blob formats.
Pay-As-You-Go
Cragvale doesn't have Pay-As-You-Go billing options. With Cragvale, you pay per gigabyte for a reserved amount of your choosing between 1 GB and however much space we have total in the chosen data-center.
Time based commitments
Most other storage providers want you to commit to at least 1 year of reserved storage with them. We do not require any commitment for any duration!
Data replication
Cragvale doesn't yet offer data replication. However, there are plans to add this in the future as an optional feature you can use.
Hidden or junk fees
We pride ourselves on providing an easy to use no strings attached service with zero hidden or junk fees.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, we offer 1 gigabyte of storage free per month. Each additional gigabyte of storage beyond the free gigabyte is billed at $0.09 per gigabyte which is half the rate of Firebase and Cloud Datastore.
Cragvale is small and is slowly building out its self-healing cloud-based network, but we're aiming at an uptime of 99.99 percent.
Please see our Service Level Agreement for further details.
Not yet. However, we do plan to add the ability to combine buckets together at some point, so stay tuned for more on that!
Yes, once per month during the final two (2) days of the month, you will be able to change your bucket sizes. The system will allow you to lower the amount to 1 GB more than what you have stored as the minimum to avoid your bucket becoming read-only access.
While at first glance it might seem like a junk fee, meaning nothing is costing them money, yet they are charging you for it anyway. However, each request does cost some CPU, RAM, and throughput.
We did some calculations and have determined that this only really becomes an issue for larger providers who have millions of customers. It is for this reason that Cragvale doesn't have similar charges outside of the gate.
We actually plan to not have such a charge period, opting instead for bandwidth control measures using traffic shaping and other tools like rate limiting. Don't worry, we plan to make these sane values and the vast majority of our users wouldn't ever notice it.
Additionally, unlike most companies, we do not subscribe to the pure greed-driven thinking of the top two rules of business, those being make as much money as you can and spend as little as you can in the process. This is a criminal-minded level of greed, and we do not agree with those two rules. So, if we need to spend a little bit more to add an additional entry point node on our network at a new data-center, that is what we will do, which increases our capabilities and thus increases our profit potential through natural growth.
In terms of software, we use both in-house cloud software wherever we can and open-sourced software wherever we can not.
Our main office data center is powered by a 2 Gbps symmetrical (same speed up and down) fiber link to the internet with sub 5 ms ping. We also host servers with OVHCloud as they do not have metered internet connections, meaning we only pay for the VPS and/or Dedicated Servers.
As we grow, we will add additional entry points to our service as needed, with the next planned addition being in Oregon, U.S.A. due to its stable natural environment free from earthquakes, tornados, strong thunderstorms, massive snow storms, etc. This entry point will be called us-west-001 once added.
While we do not charge you for API calls, we do, however, place some sane limits such as:
- 6 Mbps per API call. This means if you are loading a file from your bucket, it will transfer at this speed. We're a service intended for personal use, small to medium business use, App developers, and web developer use, etc. If we develop big data plans, they will have a higher Mbps limit.
- We may limit how many API calls can happen during a given timeframe. However, this is not something we regularly employ and is more of an automated security measure that kicks in when abuse is suspected by our servers, such as suddenly out of nowhere receiving hundreds of API calls concurrently.
Other service providers offer this as an additional feature which you must pay for, with the default being single region, while Cragvale, on the other hand, has multi-region as the default with a network of cloud reverse proxies and load-balancing to connect you to your data in the quickest way possible.
Self Healing Filesystem
Cloud DDS is a filesystem that spans multiple servers and data-centers expanding as we add more drivers and servers to the network. This also means that your data is loaded from multiple locations and assembled on request, which is far faster than storing in any given location on a single server as an added benefit.
When a chunk of data is stored on a volume server, a copy of that data is made and then split into as many shards as there are volume servers and a single shard is sent to a single other volume server so that each volume server has a piece of what all the other volume servers have. This means that in the event of an individual hard disk failure or even an entire volume server going offline, another volume server will receive all the shards from each of the other volume servers, which becomes the full missing chunk of data and the system re-balances so that the new volume server is serving that previously missing chunk, your data is thus made whole again. As a result, we do not provide replication between "regions" as this technology is more modern and superior.
As Cragvale grows its infrastructure, each additional volume server added means less and less chance of data loss due to how this filesystem works, as well as the speed of reading and writing data being increased and the overall storage pool increases!
